Ministerial Meetings to Launch “Tablet Per Student” Initiative

The Department of Electronics has conducted two ministerial meetings to discuss launching the initiative that aims at providing each student with a tablet computer during this week. The first meeting will be attended by Minister of Education Ibrahim Ghoneim, concerning with how to activate this initiative amid all Egyptian schools.

Eng. Khalid Ibrahim, Head of the Department of Electronics, stated that this meeting comes in line with the initiative launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to provide each pupil with a tablet computer, explaining that the Ministry has started this initiative by holding a tender for launching a pilot phase in the faculties of computer science in different Egyptian universities including 10,000 tablets.

The the company winning the tender, which is still anonymous, is waiting for the Information Technology Industry Development Agency “ITIDA” to order the supply of the devices , to be used in the pilot stage during the current academic year and then be spread in all schools across the Republic.

He added that the Department of Electronics will ask for meeting the Minister of Communications and Information Technology in order to discuss their vision of the sector during the upcoming period. He explained that the Department will focus on 3 basic axes; the first axis is to offer pupils tablet computers and stress that local companies will have the priority in manufacturing these tablets.
