OGC, Haya Studies A Piped Gas Network

Waste water management company Haya Water is set to collaborate with Oman Gas Company ( OGC ) in laying a piped gas network for Muscat.

With teams from the two companies already in discussions, OGC is investigating the possibility of laying its pipes in trenches excavated by Haya Water for its own sewage and treatment pipes.

Haya Water CEO Hussain Hassan Ali AbdulHussain told Muscat Daily on the sidelines of the recent Oman Power and Water Summit that the difficulty lies in matching priorities and schedules.

He said, ” OGC has to look at connections to its main pipelines, and if they are further away then the costs add up. We have a different way of looking at it – we look at the number of customers, reported Muscat Daily.

“They are looking at existing lines and ease of connection. Hopefully, we can have certain areas where we can minimise this disturbance.”

The OGC project is divided into ten catchment areas to Haya Water ‘s six, and the teams from the two companies are meeting to discuss potential links when the companies’ schedules overlap.

AbdulHussain added that technical research needs to be carried out to assess the impact of running high-powered gas lines next to sewage pipelines, as well as work out at what depths the pipes will need to be laid.

“We have to carry out some technical work to see what the impact of running a high-pressure gas line next to our sewage and treatment lines would be.”
