Orascom Construction, Engie, Toyota Tsusho granted land for 3 GW wind project in Egypt

A consortium, which includes Orascom Construction PLC, Engie, and Toyota Tsusho, has signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding for a 3 GW wind project in Egypt.

The Memorandum of Understanding, signed by the three companies and Egypt’s New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), will see the allocation of approximately 852 sq. km of land west of Sohag for the wind project.

NREA chairman Mohammed Al Khayat has signed the land agreement with Khaled El Degwy, Orascom Construction Executive Director for Concessions, on behalf of the consortium, and in the presence of Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker.

The new wind farm is expected to generate clean, reliable, and renewable energy in favour of around 2 million homes, and will cut emissions by 6.5 million tonnes a year, Minister Shaker said in a Cabinet statement.
