A policeman was injured on Thursday night when two militants on a motorcycle threw an IED at his house in the Al-Safa district of the city of Arish, eyewitnesses told Reuters’ Aswat Masriya.
The policeman was moved to Arish military hospital to receive the necessary treatment.
This is not the first incident where militants have targeted policemen’s houses in North Sinai.
Last week, an IED explosion near a policeman’s home missed the policeman but led to the collapse of a wall in an adjacent building, injuring its inhabitants. The policeman’s house was vacant at the time of the explosion because it had been targeted in an IED attack a few days earlier.
Egypt’s army is currently fighting a decade-long militant insurgency in North Sinai that has spiked since 2013.
