Red Cross chief arrives in Gaza

The Red Cross chief arrived in the Gaza Strip on Monday to call for the protection of innocent civilians in the Palestinian strip.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said that its president Mirjana Spoljaric’s warned that human suffering in the besieged city is “intolerable.”

“I have arrived in Gaza, where people’s suffering is intolerable,” Spoljaric said on X.

In an ICRC statement, she said that “It is unacceptable that civilians have no safe place to go in Gaza, and with a military siege in place there is also no adequate humanitarian response currently possible.”

Spoljaric insisted that “all those deprived of liberty must be treated humanely”.

“The hostages must be released, and the ICRC must be allowed to safely visit them,” she added.

The chief’s visit comes after the attacks on Gaza resumed.

Israel’s military said on Sunday it carried out 10,000 air strikes since the aggression began.

These airstrikes managed to kill more than 15,500 innocent civilians and wounded more than 41,000.
