SCZONE lighting factory matches products once made in Germany, Madbouly says

A lighting products factory in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has reached a production level comparable to products once made in Germany, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Sunday.

Madbouly inaugurated an expanded production phase at the factory during a tour of SCZONE, two years after visiting the facility for the opening of an earlier phase.

The factory, which Madbouly did not name, is now producing products comparable to those previously manufactured in Germany, he said, adding that German factories had faced difficulties competing because of high production costs.

This had led German manufacturers to rely on the Egyptian factory to produce an advanced lighting product for sale in markets around the world, Madbouly said.

Speaking at a press conference following his tour, Madbouly said Egypt’s current economic strategy focused on building a skilled workforce, deepening and localising domestic manufacturing, and attracting major investments from manufacturers worldwide.
