Singapore expands green energy import goal to 6 GW

Singapore has ramped up its green energy ambitions, raising its target for electricity imports from 4 gigawatts (GW) to 6 GW by 2035.

This move aims to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the power sector, which accounts for approximately 40 per cent of the nation’s carbon emissions.

In support of this goal, Singapore has issued conditional licenses to five companies to import 2 GW of low-carbon electricity generated from solar power in Indonesia.

Additionally, two projects have received conditional approvals to import another 1.4 GW of low-carbon electricity from Indonesia.

These initiatives are supported by several Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) between Indonesia and Singapore, highlighting the ongoing commitment of both countries to enhance cross-border energy trade and infrastructure development.
