UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan directed the establishment of an air bridge on Saturday to deliver aid to the Kingdom of Morocco amid the earthquake.
This initiative shows UAE’s quick respond to disasters and its commitment to strengthen global solidarity, especially with those in need. It also reaffirms the ties between the UAE and Morocco.
Morocco was hit by an earthquake late Friday night with a magnitude of 6.8, the biggest to hit the country in 120 years.
According to Morocco’s Interior Ministry, at least 2,000 died in the quake, mostly in Marrakech and five other provinces near the epicenter.
More than 2,059 people were injured with 1,404 in critical condition, the ministry added in an official statement.
