UK production slips 0.1% in Q2 ’24
UK production output fell by 0.1 per cent in Q2 2024 (April to June) compared to Q1 2024, primarily due to a 0.6 per cent decrease in manufacturing. This decline was partially offset by increases in water supply and sewerage (2.2 per cent) and electricity and gas (2.5 per cent).
Monthly production output rose by 0.8 per cent in June 2024, following a 0.3 per cent increase in May and a 1.0 per cent drop in April.
The June rise was driven by a 1.1 per cent increase in manufacturing, along with gains in electricity and gas (1.6 per cent) and water supply and sewerage (0.2 per cent). However, these gains were partially countered by a 4.0 per cent decline in mining and quarrying.
Within manufacturing, output grew in 9 of 13 subsectors in June.
The largest contributors to this growth were manufacture of basic metals and metal products (2.6 per cent), manufacture of machinery and equipment (3.9 per cent), and manufacture of transport equipment (1.5 per cent).
Conversely, other manufacturing and repair saw a 0.6 per cent decline.
