Ukraine: largest exporter of agricultural crops to Egypt

Ukraine has topped the list of the ten largest exporters of agricultural crops to Egypt within the first seven months of 2015.

According to a report issued Saturday by the General Organisation for Export and Import Control (GOEIC), the Ukrainian agricultural seven-month exports to Egypt reached 5.5 billion Egyptian pounds (US$702.2 million), seizing 21 percent of Egypt’s agricultural imports.

The report showed that Egypt’s imports of agricultural crops jumped 23 percent at the end of July 2015 to hit 26.2 billion opposed to 21.3 billion pounds at the same period of 2014.

France was the second largest exporter of agricultural crops to Egypt with exports worth 3.34 billion pounds in January-July 2015, followed by USA (3.29 billion pounds), Russia (2.5 billion pounds), and Brazil (1.8 billion pounds).

According to the report, Argentina was at the sixth place of the largest exporters of agricultural crops to Egypt with exports worth 1.3 billion pounds at the end of July 2015, followed by Romania ( 1.2 billion pounds), Poland ( one billion pounds), Australia ( 854 million pounds), then Italy whose exports to Egypt worth 833 million pounds.

The report pointed out that Egypt’s imports of grain reached 7 billion pounds at the end of July 2015, capturing 27. The imports of peanuts and leguminous crops recorded 1.9 billion pounds while fruits imports hit 1.8 billion pounds and imports of other agricultural crops registered 477 million pounds.

During the first seven months of 2015, Egypt’s imports of medicinal and aromatic recorded around 163 million pounds, rice (around 95 million pounds), onion and garlic (around 31 million pounds), potato (24 million pounds), vegetables (around 15 million), palms ( 2 million pounds).
