UN flags fly at half-mast for staff killed in Gaza

United Nations compounds across the globe have their flags flew at half-mast on Monday in memory of colleagues killed in Gaza by Israel.

Staff members of the UN also observed a minute’s silence for the victims killed during the aggression.

The UN flag was lowered at 9:30 am local time at offices in Bangkok, Tokyo and Beijing.

This came a day after the organisation reported “a significant number of deaths and injuries” in strikes on a UN facility in Gaza.

In Geneva headquarters, the second-largest headquarters, the UN flag flew at half-mast and none of the other flags of the 193 member countries were hoisted along the main alley of the compound.

The UN agency for supporting Palestinians (UNRWA) said on Friday that more than 100 of its employees were killed in Gaza since the start of the Israeli aggression.

More than 11,180 innocent civilians have been killed in Gaza in strikes by Israel.
