United Nations World Food Programme has signed a partnership agreement with the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) to support the School Nutrition Program for the needy children in Sohag.
The World Food Programme said in statement today that NBE granted it EGP one million to support 9,500 children and their families in 74 schools in the most marginalized areas in Sohag.
The Programme will encourage children to attend school regularly as they will be given a meal at school daily and 10 kilograms of rice to their homes monthly. The Programme will provide daily meals that are rich in Vitamin A and iron to fight hunger during the school day and raise the capabilities of students.
NBE responded to the government’s call for banking sector to contribute to improving the educational system. Tarek Amer, chairman of NBE, told MENA state news agency that the Programme aims at improving the health standards of children and encouraging them to attend school regularly. The Programme will serve the most needed areas in Sohag for a year, Amer added.
The Programme helps the government to achieve its goal by improving educational quality by 2015, to be in line with the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
