Egypt’s GAFI in talks over Amazon’s plans to expand in local market
Egypt’s General Authority of Free Zones and Investment (GAFI) and Souq.com – an affiliate to the E-commerce giant Amazon – discussed on Tuesday Amazon’s plans to expand in the North African country.
GAFI’s head Mohamed Abdel Wahab and Souq.com’s general manager Omar El Sahy held a meeting where they tackled Amazon’s proposal to develop transport services, through using private cars to transfer light cargo.
During the meeting, Abdel Wahab said GAFI would provide the necessary support for the firm to expand its trade activities in the Egyptian market and apply its digital transformation schemes.
GAFI’s head promised to provide the spaces required to establish new warehouses and distribution centers for the firm in all governorates, underlining the importance of assisting emerging companies to promote their products and open up new exporting markets for Egyptian products via E-commerce platforms.
Souq.com’s general manager reviewed the company’s investments in Egypt, noting that it has more than 10 distribution centers nationwide and hires around 1,000 employees.
Amazon looks forward to expanding its business in the Egyptian market and making a range of its various services available, notably artificial intelligence and digital payment, Sahy said.
