Egypt’s Suez Canal not affected by alternative maritime trade routes – Cabinet
Egypt said the maritime navigation in its Suez Canal was not affected by any alternative international maritime trade routes, announced the Egyptian Media Center of the Cabinet in a statement on Friday.
After contacting the Suez Canal Authority, the cabinet denied media reports claiming that the Egyptian canal has been affected by other alternative routes.
Over the past few weeks, some media outlets talked about an Iranian sea corridor that commercial connects Russia with India.
The number of ships transiting the Suez Canal rose to 19.300 ships over the financial year 2019/2020 from 18.500 ships that crossed the canal during 2018/2019, the Cabinet statement added.
Suez Canal’s revenues climbed 2 percent during the first four months of this year, recording $1.907 billion, up from $1.869 billion during the same period of 2019, Chairman of Suez Canal Authority Osama Rabea said last May.
