Poland moves forward with 1st nuclear power plant
Poland’s Ministry of Climate and Environment has signed a deal on Wednesday with Westinghouse Electric Company to cooperate on the central European nation’s first nuclear power plant using the American company’s technology.
The plant is expected to begin in 2026, said Poland’s Minister of Climate Anna Moskwa, adding that the facility is expected to start supplying Poland’s power grid in 2032.
The agreement also included Poland’s nuclear energy development company (PEJ) and Westinghouse Electric Poland, according to the statement.
The contract was signed by PEJ’s CEO Tomasz Stępień, Westinghouse Poland CEO Mirosław Kowalik, and the chief of Westinghouse’s Energy System department David Durham.
The American ambassador to Poland emphasised that energy is crucial for economic development; while the Polish minister anticipated additional contracts to be signed later this year.
