The upcoming El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) in Egypt has taken the decision to postpone the event to the 27th of October – the 2nd of November, due to the Israel-Hamas conflict, said a statement released by the festival’s management on Tuesday.
The festival’s management added that it will hold the 6th edition of the event despite the current challenging circumstances, saying “it strongly believes in the power of cinema to unite all sectors and communities.”
It concluded, “our commitment to showcasing the impactful work of our talented youth and emphasising the transformative nature of cinema remains un-wavered. We sincerely appreciate your understanding as we navigate these challenging times.”
This decision comes just three days after Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel out of Gaza, killing more than 900 people and kidnapping more than 100 others.
