The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has reported on the terrible situation in Gaza, where a child is killed every 10 minutes and hospitals have no anaesthetics for operations.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the WHO, stated to the United Nations Security Council that “Nowhere and no one is safe”.
In Gaza, “Nowhere and no one is safe.”
He further said that Gaza’s health system is in a dire state ” on its knees”. He mentioned that there have been more than 250 attacks on health centres in Gaza and 25 in Israel since the start of the conflict last month. Over 100 UN personel have lost their lives.
Gaza’s medical services are facing a severe crisis, the hospitals and primary care centres were mostly non-functional, with only 18 hospitals and less than a third of the centres operating. Those that remained open were overloaded, he added.
