France’s Macron hosts Arab foreign ministers
The Islamic Ministerial Committee met the French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Wednesday to discuss the situation in Gaza.
The committee members who attended the with Macron included Palestinian Foreign Minister (FM) and Expatriates Riyad Al-Maliki, Egyptian FM Sameh Shoukry, Deputy Prime Minister and FM of Jordan Ayman Safadi.
Also in the meeting were Turkish FM Hakan Fidan, Indonesian FM Retno Marsudi, Nigeria’s FM Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Saudi FM Faisal Bin Farhan, and Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
The French FM, Catherine Colonna, was also in attendance.
The meeting welcomed the joint mediation efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, for reaching a humanitarian pause in the Gaza Strip.
Moreover, the committee called upon France to play a balanced role in accordance with international law and humanitarian law to achieve an immediate and complete cessation of fire and to implement all relevant international resolutions.
They also urged the international community to fulfill its responsibility by rejecting all forms of selectivity in the application of international legal and ethical standards.
The FMs also called for protecting the Palestinian people from the crimes committed by the occupying forces and settlers against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Committee members highlighted the importance of ensuring just, permanent, and comprehensive peace by implementing international decisions related to the two-state solution.
They stressed on the need to enable the Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate rights in establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the lines of June fourth, 1967, with its capital in East Jerusalem.
