Egypt forms climate-smart agriculture partnership with World Bank
Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation established on Sunday a partnership with the World Bank to encourage innovation in the field of climate-smart agriculture (CSA).
This partnership builds on the capabilities of a KGGTF-sponsored project with the aim of adapting technologies and optimal practices necessary for enhancing climate-smart agriculture (CSA) in Egypt.
The recent collaboration with the World Bank is an implementation of the Climate Resilient Agri-Food Transformation (CRAFT) project as a part of Egypt’s Nexus of Water, Food, and Energy (NWFE) programme.
In addition to developing innovative digital solutions for the agricultural sector in Egypt, the partnership aims to expand its scope to include regional initiatives with an emphasis on Africa.
The Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, stated that sustainable economic development and green growth are fundamentally linked to the creation of sustainable infrastructure and the efficient utilisation of resources, which will be achieved through collaboration with the World Bank and the KGGTF.
Martien van Nieuwkoop, the Global Director of the World Bank’s Agriculture and Food Global Practice, said that the collaboration with the Ministry will support Egypt’s journey towards green growth.
He also pointed out that this will be achieved through local solutions that emphasise climate-smart technology.
The World Bank is implementing a new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for Egypt, which includes financing worth $7 billion and is committed to backing the bank’s strategy in Egypt for the fiscal years 2023–2027.
