The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.4 per cent, following a 0.3 per cent rise in January, according to official data released by US Bureau of Labor Statistics on Tuesday.
Over the past 12 months, the overall index increased by 3.2 per cent before seasonal adjustments. The rise in the index for shelter and gasoline in February accounted for over 60 per cent of the overall increase.
The energy index increased by 2.3 per cent, with all component indexes showing growth. The food index remained unchanged, while the food away from home index increased by 0.1 per cent.
The index for all items excluding food and energy also rose by 0.4 per cent in February, mirroring the increase in January.
Over the 12 months ending in February, the all items index rose by 3.2 per cent, slightly higher than the 3.1 per cent increase in January, the report added.
The index for all items excluding food and energy increased by 3.8 per cent over the same period. The energy index decreased by 1.9 per cent, while the food index increased by 2.2 per cent over the past year.
