World Bank boosts Djibouti’s economic management with $5m
The World Bank approved on Sunday an additional $5 million for Djibouti’s economic management and statistics development project to enhance the National Institute of Statistics of Djibouti’s ability to generate accurate statistics crucial for policy-making.
According to a statement by the international lender, the funding will aid in conducting comprehensive censuses and surveys, vital for economic and climate-related strategies. The project also focuses on bolstering environmental statistics and providing scholarships for statistical engineers, thereby improving the nation’s data-driven decision-making framework.
The Ministry of Finance and the National Institute of Statistics of Djibouti, supported by four technical departments, will lead the project’s execution.
The World Bank’s portfolio in Djibouti involves 22 projects, worth a total of approximately $463 million in IDA financing and trust funds. The portfolio focuses on areas of education, health, social safety nets, energy, rural and urban development, modernising public administration, digital development, strengthening governance, infrastructure, and on private sector development, with an emphasis on women and youth.
