China’s Chongqing boosts NEV charging infrastructure

Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality announced ambitious plans to construct over 2,000 supercharging stations and more than 4,000 superchargers for new energy vehicles (NEVs) by 2025, Xinhua reported on Thursday.

The city’s major urban areas will see all newly built public fast charging stations equipped with supercharging capacity, and existing stations will be progressively upgraded to supercharging ones.

Additionally, 170 supercharging stations are expected to be established in the city’s expressway service areas by 2025.

The number of NEVs in China has been on a steady rise, reaching 20.41 million by the end of 2023.

In response to the increasing use of electric vehicles, China has been expanding its NEV charging facilities network, which saw a 65 per cent growth in 2023, totaling nearly 8.6 million by year-end.
