Amazon to invest €1.2b in France

Amazon announced on Monday an investment exceeding €1.2 billion ($1.3 billion) in its French operations, promising to create over 3,000 permanent jobs in the country, Reuters reported.

This move is part of the Choose France event, which seeks to attract foreign investment and was confirmed by the French presidency on Sunday.

The investment will enhance Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) cloud infrastructure in the Paris region, capitalising on the growing generative AI sector in France.

Additionally, it will bolster the logistics framework in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes area. This expansion is part of Amazon’s broader commitment to France, where it has already invested over €20 billion since 2010 and employs more than 22,000 staff in its cloud and retail divisions.

Frédéric Duval, Amazon France’s country manager, highlighted that these new positions are supplementary to the 2,000 jobs slated for 2024.

The investment also aims to upgrade Amazon’s extensive logistics network, which includes more than 35 facilities nationwide, to expedite deliveries and diminish carbon emissions.
