Egypt-Jordan trade volume falls to $864m in ’23 – CAPMAS

The trade volume between Egypt and Jordan dropped to $864 million in 2023 compared to $990 million in 2022, according to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Egyptian exports to Jordan totaled $658 million in 2023, down from $732 million in the previous year. Meanwhile, Egyptian imports from Jordan also fell to $206 million from $259 million in 2022.

Among Egypt’s major exports to Jordan in 2023 were fuel and mineral oils worth $107 million, vegetable and fruit preparations valued at $73.4 million, vegetables and fruits at $60.6 million, machinery and electrical appliances at $40.6 million, and ready-made clothing worth $41 million.

Conversely, Egypt’s main imports from Jordan included fertilisers worth $105.6 million, pharmaceuticals at $21.8 million, plastics at $16 million, and other commodities totaling $48.6 million.

The value of remittances by Egyptian expats in Jordan decreased to $415.3 million during the fiscal year 2022-2023 from $792.9 million in 2021-2022. Meanwhile, remittances by Jordanian expats working in Egypt also declined to $5.6 million in 2022/2023 compared to $9.6 million in 2021/2022.

Jordanian investments in Egypt, however, rose to $134 million in the fiscal year 2022-2023 from $119 million in the previous year. On the other hand, Egyptian investments in Jordan fell to $183.6 million from $226.2 million over the same period.

Estimated number of Egyptian expats registered at the Egyptian Consulate in Amman reached 900 thousands up to the end of 2022.
