European indices mixed on Monday

European share indices showed mixed performance by midday Monday ET following US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s statement that it was time for the central bank to lower its key policy rate.

As of 7:02 ET (11:02 GMT), the pan-European STOXX 600 index fell by 0.10 per cent, with the technology and auto sectors leading the day’s declines.

London’s FTSE 100 rose by 0.48 per cent, while Germany’s DAX slipped by 0.22 per cent following a notable drop in German business sentiment data. France’s CAC 40 edged up by 0.16 per cent.

Switzerland’s SMI saw a modest gain of 0.06 per cent.
