Italy’s inflation up in August 2024

Italy’s consumer price index (NIC) for August 2024 showed a modest increase of 0.2 per cent on monthly basis, according to preliminary estimates. On year-on-year, NIC grew 1.1 per cent.

Core inflation, which excludes energy and unprocessed food, edged up to 2.0 per cent in August 2024 from 1.9 per cent in July 2024, while inflation excluding energy rose to 1.9 per cent from 1.8 per cent.

The harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) for August 2024 decreased by 0.1 per cent on a monthly basis, attributed to summer sales, but increased by 1.3 per cent year-on-year.
