Germany’s employment declines in August ’24

Germany saw a slight decline in employment in August 2024, with 45.9 million people in work, according to provisional data. Seasonally adjusted figures show a drop of 21,000 employed persons compared to July, while unadjusted data revealed a decline of 35,000.

Year-on-year, employment rose by 0.3 per cent (145,000), though this marks a slowdown from earlier months. Unemployment increased to 1.7 million people, up 20.5 per cent from August 2023, with the adjusted unemployment rate holding steady at 3.5 per cent compared to July.
