European shares down in early trade

European shares faced widespread losses on Thursday, with most indexes declining following the release of key economic data for the bloc and its major economies.

By 5:23 ET (9:23 GMT), the pan-European STOXX 600 index was down 0.63 per cent, Germany’s DAX fell 0.53 per cent, and France’s CAC 40 decreased by 0.81 per cent. Switzerland’s SMI also dropped by 0.44 per cent.

In contrast, the FTSE 100 in London gained 0.26 per cent, while Spain’s IBEX 35 rose slightly by 0.06 per cent.
