European shares dip amid concerns over Trump’s policies
European shares fell on Monday, weighed by concerns over Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs and mixed performance in Chinese markets. The pan-European STOXX 600 index slipped 0.43 per cent by midday (GMT), with Germany’s DAX and France’s CAC 40 declining 0.20 per cent and 0.12 per cent, respectively.
Switzerland’s SMI fell 0.06 per cent, and Spain’s IBEX 35 dropped 0.10 per cent. In contrast, the UK’s FTSE 100 edged up 0.11 per cent.
Real estate and technology stocks led the declines as traders fretted over the potential inflationary impact of Trump’s trade policies. Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel warned that such measures could disrupt global trade.
European stocks have been under pressure since Trump’s election, reflecting uncertainty over his administration’s economic direction.
