Italy’s consumer sentiment falls in Nov. ’24

Italy’s consumer confidence shrunk in November 2024 with the index falling to 96.6 from 97.4 the previous month, driven by declines in economic and future outlook indices, the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) reported on Thursday.

A more evident deterioration was observed in the economic and future indices which fell from 99.7 to 97.8 and from 95.0 to 93.8, respectively. For other components, the current climate also slipped from 99.2 to 98.7 and the personal one from 96.6 to 96.2.Business confidence, measured by the Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator (IESI), edged down from 93.4 to 93.1.

Sector-specific trends showed mixed results. Manufacturing confidence increased from 85.8 to 86.5, buoyed by improved order book assessments despite concerns about future production levels.

On the other hand, the construction sentiment fell from 103.9 to 101.5, influenced by worsened employment expectations. The market services climate also saw a decline from 95.2 to 93.7, attributed to lower expectations for order volumes and weakened business trend assessments.

Retail trade confidence climate surged from 103.8 to 106.7, marking a third consecutive rise, driven by optimism in current and future business activity.
