European shares mixed amid French political turmoil

European shares were mixed on Thursday as investors largely brushed aside concerns over political instability in France, following lawmakers’ widely anticipated vote to oust Prime Minister Michel Barnier’s government.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index went 0.47 per cent higher by 7:09 AM ET (12:09 PM GMT), with Germany’s DAX up 0.55 per cent, France’s CAC 40 rising 0.18 per cent, and Spain’s IBEX 35 surging 1.22 per cent. The UK’s FTSE 100 dipped 0.09 per cent.
