The Egyptian government is set to roll out a new initiative in early 2025 to convert 1.5 million vehicles to compressed natural gas, according to the Cabinet statement. The programme aims to reduce carbon emissions and offer financial savings for citizens, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said during a Cabinet meeting.
The meeting noted the development of an online portal by the Ministry of Petroleum companies, which will be launched on a trial basis.
Citizens interested in participating in the initiative will be able to register on the website starting next year. In addition, applicants can still register through the customer service centres of the associated companies. The Cabinet also discussed the steps required to complete the vehicle conversion process.
The initiative would help promote the use of an economical alternative to gasoline and diesel while significantly reducing carbon emissions.
