Egypt, China strengthen agricultural investment ties

Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk met with the Egyptian-Chinese Businessmen Association to boost agricultural investment in the country, as per a statement from the Cabinet on Wednesday.

The meeting focused on setting up an agricultural investment project in the New Valley Governorate with China Railway to increase seed production for key crops like potatoes, wheat, and soybeans.

Farouk highlighted the strong ties between Egypt and China, emphasising their collaborative projects across various sectors, particularly agriculture. He also praised Egypt’s initiatives to enhance the investment environment, attract investors, and engage the private sector in development initiatives.

Farouk said that the ministry will offer technical support to the Chinese side through experts and researchers from the Agricultural Research Center to ensure the success of this cooperation.

The project, located in the New Valley Governorate, will serve as the focal point for significant investment projects carried out by the Chinese business alliance in Egypt, according to the statement.

It was decided to draft a collaborative memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture, the New Valley Governorate, and the Chinese company, encompassing all aspects of cooperation and methods for implementing projects.
