The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is requesting input on a proposed regulatory framework that would allow retail investors to access private market investment funds, expanding their investment options.
Current regulations in Singapore restrict retail investors’ access to private market investments like private equity, private credit, and infrastructure, according to a statement from MAS on Thursday.
MAS has introduced a Long-term Investment Fund (LIF) framework specifically designed for private market investment funds. This framework has been tailored to accommodate the unique features of private market investment funds and to address the requirements of retail investors who are interested in investing in such funds.
MAS has proposed two fund structures: direct funds for direct private market investments and long-term investment fund-of-funds that invest primarily in other private market investment funds.
