Egypt reaffirms support for OAPEC, Arab energy cooperation

Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi met with the Secretary General of the Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) Jamal Issa Al-Loughani to discuss enhancing Arab integration in oil, gas, and energy.

Talks focused on restructuring the organisation and launching new initiatives to strengthen its regional and global role, in line with ministerial decisions made in December.

Badawi expressed Egypt’s full support describing the efforts as a fresh start, and proposed establishing a centre of excellence to share expertise among member states. He also called for a unified Arab approach to exporting surplus green energy to Europe, citing Egypt’s strategic location and successful models like the SUMED pipeline and Egypt-Saudi power link.

Al-Loughani for his part reviewed ongoing restructuring steps and highlighted the need to maximise Arab energy resources, boost cooperation on future projects, and expand knowledge-sharing and joint research.
