Egypt eyes local green tech production with China’s Sungrow

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat held a meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Chinese Sungrow Group of companies Thompson Meng, as reported by the Egyptian Cabinet.

The company specialises in renewable energy equipment, battery storage systems, and electric vehicle charging technologies.

The meeting focused on potential partnerships to localise the manufacturing of electrical equipment related to wind and solar energy, including the production of energy storage batteries.

The two sides discussed the group’s technological capabilities, its subsidiaries’ manufacturing expertise, and the scale of equipment it has supplied for renewable energy and storage projects currently underway in Egypt.

The discussions come in light of Egypt’s national strategy to expand its reliance on renewable energy sources and reduce import dependency.

Esmat highlighted the government’s efforts to attract foreign investment in clean energy industries and the opportunity for companies like Sungrow to benefit from Egypt’s free trade agreements and exemptions with surrounding markets.
