Egypt expands environmental protection efforts with new projects

Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad and the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation (AOI) Chairman Mokhtar Abdel Latif witnessed the signing of new contracts and agreements to advance environmental protection projects, as per a Cabinet statement.

Abdel Latif expressed his appreciation for the strong and ongoing cooperation with the Ministry of Environment across several industrial fields, including environmental protection and solid waste management.

He announced the signing of a joint venture agreement between Atico Wood Industries, affiliated with AOI, and the Asian firm Green Avenue for a project to recycle used tyres. The project’s first phase includes an annual recycling capacity of 50,000 tons, aiming to safely dispose of tyres while generating added value by producing economically valuable products.

Additionally, Abdel Latif highlighted an agreement between Atico and Bechem Industrial Investment and Sustainable Development Company to manufacture wooden pallets from agricultural waste. The project supports the conversion of biomass into energy for use in key sectors such as cement manufacturing.
