Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk met with Comoros’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Mbaye to discuss agricultural cooperation between the two nations, as per a Cabinet statement on Tuesday.
Farouk welcomed the Comorian minister and affirmed the strong historical ties between the two countries. He expressed Egypt’s readiness to provide comprehensive support in the agricultural sector to its Comorian counterparts.
Egypt is willing to host Comorian trainees for specialised agricultural training at the Egyptian International Centre for Agriculture (EICA) and send Egyptian experts to share their knowledge, with potential for new agricultural investments, Farouk said.
For his part, Mohamed Mbaye commended the role of Al-Azhar in educating Comorian nationals across various disciplines, as well as the ongoing support provided by Egyptian universities to Comorian scholars.
He expressed his country’s keen interest in strengthening cooperation with Egypt in agriculture and fisheries to enhance food security and promote sustainable development in Comoros, the statement added.
Both parties decided to establish a joint working group to monitor discussions and create strategies to boost agricultural trade. They also considered the option of signing a cooperation agreement for fisheries and regional maritime activities.
