Egypt is strengthening its partnership with the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to advance sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate finance as part of its broader development agenda.
Planning Minister Rania Al-Mashat met with AbdulHakim Elwaer, FAO’s Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa, in Cairo to discuss ongoing collaboration under the 2023–2027 UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. The strategy targets inclusive economic growth, governance, gender equity, and environmental resilience.
Minister Al-Mashat reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to deepening its partnership with FAO under the country’s national development agenda and the 2023–2027 UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. The framework prioritises human capital development, inclusive economic growth, governance reforms, gender equality, and environmental sustainability.
She highlighted a 20 per ent increase in public investment in agriculture and land reclamation for the current fiscal year, describing the sector as key to improving food security, boosting agricultural exports, and creating jobs.
The meeting reviewed progress on FAO’s Country Programming Framework in Egypt and examined ways to improve climate resilience, attract investment in human capital, and promote inclusive development.
Both sides also explored opportunities to strengthen South-South and triangular cooperation, emphasising knowledge exchange and the value of FAO’s technical expertise in enhancing collaboration among developing economies.
