Egypt explores more agricultural investment in Africa

Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk and Sherif El-Gebaly, chairman of the African Affairs Committee at the Egyptian House of Representatives, presided over a committee meeting to discuss investment opportunities in the agricultural sector across African nations.

Farouk stressed the need to boost Egyptian collaboration with African nations, particularly in agriculture, and to expand investment opportunities in the sector to improve food security in Egypt and across Africa, as per a Cabinet statement.

The minister highlighted that many African countries possess significant potential for the success of agricultural investments, especially in cultivating a wide range of strategic and economically important crops, which would yield mutual benefits.

The meeting explored creating a model for agricultural investment in various African countries, considering factors like political stability, transport networks, land quality, water availability, and agricultural resources.

Attendees agreed to prepare a clear, comprehensive, and in-depth study on a successful model, identifying priority African countries for agricultural investment, as well as the potential incentives available to investors.

It was also agreed to invite business leaders and investors to review these models and establish partnerships between the government, private sector, and national banks to strengthen agricultural investment opportunities in African countries.
