Egypt’s PM inaugurates EGP 1.6b liquid bulk terminal at WSP port

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly inaugurated an EGP 1.6 billion liquid bulk terminal operated by New Horizon Tank Terminal (NHTT) at West Port Said Port (WSP port), according to a statement by the Cabinet.

Waleid Gamal El-Dien, chairman of the General Authority for Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), highlighted the terminal’s importance as a valuable addition to WSP port, aligning with the authority’s strategy to enhance services and value at its ports.

He confirmed that the liquid bulk terminal strengthens the port’s ability to serve the petroleum and chemical sectors, improving operational efficiency and boosting competitiveness both regionally and internationally.

Gamal El-Dien further noted that the terminal opens new avenues for attracting investment in industries linked to the transport, storage, and handling of liquid materials, as per the statement.

It will play a vital role in global supply chains and stands as a practical example of integration between private investment and government-led infrastructure and operational service development.

Majid Shafiq, chairman of Life Chemicals Group—the Egyptian partner in the NHTT project— explained that the terminal spans 15,657 square metres and includes 27 tanks with a total storage capacity of 51,183 cubic metres.

The terminal is designed to accommodate liquid bulk vessels with loads exceeding 20,000 tonnes, with an annual handling capacity of up to 310,000 tons. Shafiq added that the project adheres to occupational safety and health standards in line with global procedures, with training programmes provided for employees in this area.
