Egypt exported 270,000 tons of food products in the week ending May 16, with potatoes and citrus fruits topping the list of outbound shipments, according to the latest National Food Safety Authority’s weekly report issued on Sunday.
The number of exported food consignments reached 4,360 amounting to about 270,000 tons, exported by 1,050 companies. These shipments included 593 varieties of vegetables, fruits, flour, and various food products
Potatoes and onions topped the list of exported vegetables at 25,000 tons each, followed by various types of beans at 6,000 tons. In all, Egypt exported 75,000 tons of vegetables spanning 47 varieties.
Among fruits, citrus exports led with 35,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 16,000 tons, and other assorted fruits at 9,000 tons, totalling 60,000 tons across 26 fruit types, the report showed.
The United States, Sudan, Russia, and Saudi Arabia emerged as the top destinations for Egyptian food exports out of a total of 190 importing countries.
