Egypt, Rwanda FMs discuss logistics zones, Nile cooperation

Africa-EU ministerial meeting in Brussels

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty reaffirmed on Wednesday Egypt’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Rwanda, especially in priority areas such as energy, infrastructure, logistics corridors, trade, investment, health, agriculture, and security cooperation.

During talks with Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe on the sidelines of the Africa-EU ministerial meeting in Brussels, Abdel-Aty welcomed the allocation of land for establishing two logistics zones in both countries. He said this would help Egyptian companies access the Rwandan market and stressed the importance of healthcare cooperation, particularly completing the Egypt–Rwanda/Magdi Yacoub Heart Centre.

The ministers discussed regional developments, with Abdel-Aty welcoming the April 25 Washington Declaration of Principles signed by Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He voiced Egypt’s support for all mediation efforts to reach a political settlement and expressed readiness to assist in confidence-building and peace initiatives.

Abdel-Aty also stressed Egypt’s support for development in Nile Basin countries. He highlighted the launch of a $100 million Egyptian mechanism to fund infrastructure projects in the southern Nile Basin, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to international law governing the River Nile, including the principles of no harm, prior notification, and consensus.
