Egypt, OECD discuss expanding trade, agriculture cooperation

Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development Rania Al-Mashat met with Julia Nielson, Deputy Director of the OECD Trade and Agriculture Directorate, to discuss expanding cooperation on economic reforms and trade integration.

The talks were held on the sidelines of the Islamic Development Bank Group’s (IsDB) 2025 Annual Meetings in Algiers.

Minister Al-Mashat, who also serves as Egypt’s Governor at the IsDB, reaffirmed the importance of the strategic partnership with the OECD, which was formalised in 2021 with the launch of the Egypt Country Programme.

The programme supports Egypt’s Vision 2030 and structural reform agenda through 35 projects across five pillars: inclusive growth, innovation, governance, statistics, and sustainable development.

She said the collaboration serves as a key platform for policy dialogue, technical support, and capacity building, while facilitating the exchange of best practices across the region.

Discussions also focused on trade integration and value chains, with Minister Al-Mashat highlighting Egypt’s participation in the OECD’s Trade in Value Added (TiVA) Initiative. She reiterated Egypt’s ambition to enhance its role in regional and global value chains and strengthen trade ties with African partners.
