Egypt, Algeria discuss expanding energy cooperation

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat has held a meeting with Algeria’s Ambassador to Egypt Mohamed Sofiane Berrah to explore ways to boost cooperation, partnerships, and investment in electricity and renewable energy.

Talks focused on the implementation of high-voltage transmission lines, distribution network upgrades, transformer station projects, and advancing clean energy.

The Algerian Ambassador expressed interest in working with Egyptian firms to develop Algeria’s electricity grid and study how to increase Egyptian electrical equipment exports to the Algerian market.

Minister Esmat outlined Egypt’s strategy to diversify its energy mix and expand the use of renewables, particularly wind and solar, as part of efforts to cut fossil fuel reliance and reduce carbon emissions.

The meeting also covered Egypt’s plans to localise the manufacturing of electrical components, especially for the renewable energy sector, and encourage private sector involvement in green energy projects.
