Egypt partners with private sector to launch Jirian city in New Delta

The Egypt government on Sunday signed partnership contracts to develop Jirian city, located along the Sheikh Zayed Axis. The state, represented by the Future of Egypt authority for sustainable development, partnered with three major real estate firms—Palm Hills, Mountain View, and Nations of Sky. Jirian marks the first real estate development within the New Delta project, covering 1,600 feddans (over 6 million square metres).

The three companies have formed a consortium to implement this ambitious project, which is expected to be completed within five years. The 1,600-feddan site is seen as the core area of a broader urban expansion.

Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly described the New Delta initiative as a sustainable, smart, and environmentally friendly project. It benefits from one of the River Nile’s offshoots to serve the New Delta region. He highlighted the innovative idea of using the land on both banks of this branch to launch a real estate development on previously barren desert land, transforming low-value terrain into economically viable assets for the state.

Madbouly also addressed concerns that the development might not cater to middle-income and young families. He stated that the project would create 250,000 direct and indirect jobs. It is part of a broader urban development plan that will include future cities and villages to serve all income levels, including youth and middle-income groups.

The Prime Minister emphasised the integrated nature of the development vision, which includes agriculture, industry, logistics, and tourism. He noted the site’s strategic location—just 10 minutes from the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Giza Pyramids—saying it responds to longstanding questions about where the necessary hotel capacity would come from to meet expected demand.

“This is part of the answer,” he said, “and a promising future for our beloved Egypt. With the completion of the New Delta project, we are talking about the emergence of five new governorates in Egypt’s desert.”
