European stock markets were mixed on Tuesday, as weakness in bank and mining shares pressured indices amid persistent concerns over global trade tensions.
The pan-European STOXX 600 edged down 0.11 per cent by 12:39 GMT, as investors adopted a cautious stance ahead of the European Central Bank’s policy decision on Thursday.
France’s CAC 40 fell 0.13 per cent and Spain’s IBEX 35 dropped 0.80 per cent. In contrast, Germany’s DAX edged up 0.13 per cent, while the UK’s FTSE 100 rose 0.19 per cent.
Investors remained wary ahead of fresh updates on the global trade outlook, which continues to cloud prospects for economic growth.
