Egypt’s Ministry of Industry and Transport has licensed Rehla Rides, an Egyptian joint-stock company, to operate smart passenger transport services across the country using information technology systems, as part of a push to promote safer and more affordable urban mobility.
The licensing agreement was signed on Monday between Egypt’s Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LTRA) and Rehla Rides. The signing was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir.
The company will begin a three-month pilot phase in Alexandria and the North Coast, before expanding to Cairo, the Delta, Upper Egypt, and tourist cities within 18 months. It aims to invest 400 million Egyptian pounds in its first year of operations, targeting 425,000 active users and creating over 10,000 driver jobs by the end of the second year.
“This reflects the state’s commitment to strengthening the role of Egyptian companies in smart transport, and to fostering public-private partnerships to improve quality of life in major cities through safe and affordable mobility,” Deputy Prime Minister El-Wazir said.
Rehla Rides plans to scale its fleet from 600 vehicles currently registered for Alexandria and the North Coast to 100,000 vehicles nationwide over the next three years. Its service will operate through the arrw app, offering booking, trip tracking, e-payments, and real-time service monitoring.
