Egypt’s Cabinet approves Gargoub Special Economic Zone establishment

Egypt’s Cabinet approved Wednesday the creation of the Gargoub Special Economic Zone on the country’s northwestern coast as part of plans to boost foreign investment and regional development.

The zone, covering roughly 402,200 feddans, will be established by presidential decree and governed under Egypt’s special economic zones Law No. 83 of 2002, the Cabinet said in a statement following its 47th meeting. Officials expect the area to serve as a hub for industrial, logistics and commercial activity.

The decision aligns with Egypt’s broader strategy to develop strategic coastal areas and attract private sector participation in major infrastructure projects.
