Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Osama Rabie announced Sunday the authority will allow Ismaily Sporting Club to host its home matches at the Suez Canal International Stadium and provide 1 million Egyptian pounds ($20,718) in urgent financial support.
The decision came after appeals from fans of the coastal city’s most prominent football team, Rabie said in a statement following his meeting with club chairman Nasr Abou Elhasan.
He added that the funding is part of the authority’s community responsibility programme to promote sports in the Canal region.
Rabie said Ismaily, one of Egypt’s oldest and most popular clubs, is a “cornerstone of the sporting and cultural heritage” of Ismailia and deserves support from all state institutions. He also voiced confidence in fans’ commitment to safety and security regulations, ensuring matches at the stadium reflect the club’s legacy and popularity.
